Lt. Gen. Foulkes
Canal boats retrieved in Germany
Shortly after the war Reederij P. Kooij received word that several of its confiscated boats had been found. Mr. P. Kooij was given a ship passport by the Canadians and traveled towards Emden in Germany - under supervision - to retrieve his boats. After a somewhat dangerous action in the port of Emden, mr. P. Kooij sailed back onto the IJ several days later.
After the capitulation of the Germans in May 1945, the Canadians were given control over Amsterdam. After this period, he returned to Amsterdam and took a canal cruise through Amsterdam. On the photo, next to him, prince Bernhard.
