Restoration
In 2019, the Gerarda Johanna was completely restored and electrified. Due to the rich and far-reaching history of this ship, it was decided to restore it as accurately as possible back to its original state. Extra attention was paid to the details and choice of materials. For example, there is a lot of brass, woodwork and enamel and the floor and window frames were also done. At the bottom of the page you will find a number of photos of the details mentioned.
Gerarda Johanna
Gerarda Johanna was the spouse of the founder of Rederij P. Kooij and ran the shipping company during her working years. On the inside of her characteristic jacket (seen in the photo) she wrote down all reservations and groups. In this way she knew exactly when a group came for a cruise and with how many people would be in it.
Beatrix I
The Gerarda Johanna previously sailed under the name Beatrix 1. When Queen Juliana was at the end of her pregnancy in 1937, she sailed with the “temporary” name ‘Prins ?’. After the birth of Prinses Beatrix, in January 1938, this was supplemented with ‘es Beatrix’ so that the full name was displayed on the bow of the Gerarda Johanna.
